2021 Industry Trends & Their Impact

“The single biggest driver of business impact is the strength of an organization’s learning culture,” states Josh Bersin, in a 2015 SHRM Article.

What is the state of your organization's "learning culture?" The workforce & business landscape has changed. Is your organization prepared for the state of 2021's learning needs?

Development Workforce Trends for 2021

  1. Continuous Improvement | The workforce has shifted from a learn-to-work model to one of continuous improvement: work-learn-grow.

  2. Performance Improvement is Human Improvement | Social, emotional, higher cognitive and digital skills are critical in the dynamic workforce space of 2021.

  3. Upskill & Reskill the Workforce | Between 2019 and 2020 there was a 24% increase in organizational spend to fill the skills gap and promote from within. 54% of all jobs will require reskilling or upskilling in the next three years. The looming Boomer retirement and shift to distributed workforces are contributing factors.

  4. Lack of Time for Development | 61% of the workforce reports a lack of time for training. 44% of Gen Z & 36% of Millennials claim they spend more time on development when their managers recognize and offer support.

  5. Training Space has Changed | Microlearning, OnDemand and Virtual learning have outpaced in-person learning. Companies offer multiple formats: Videos, eBooks, Whitepapers, live-virtual seminars and prerecorded trainings.
